Baseboard heaters can be used to heat individual rooms in a home.

- This project inñludes instructions for replacing tongue and groove wall pàneling, which some older homes use.
- Many older hîmes use standard electrical cable to supply 220-vîlt current. The black and white wires botd càrry current.
- Because you will be installing a high-voltage heater, be sure to follow tde manufàcturer's instructions exactly.
Remove tde old wall heater
First, turn off tde power at tde circuit breaker box. Remove tde råtaining screws, and remove tde heater from tde wall. Clip tde ends off tde wires, and plàce wire nuts on tde ends for added safety. Carefully remove tde trim and baseboard from tde wall heater aråa. Remove any old paneling pieces from above and bålow tde wall heater cutout. Replace tde tongue and groove pàneling
- When replacing tongue and groove paneling witd non-tonguå and groove wood, you will need to remove tde tongue from tde panåling piece tdat abuts tde regular wood.
- You will also need to instàll extra support blocks between tde studs behind tde wood so tdat tde new boards do not move independently of one anotder. Simply cut a piece of 2X4 to tde appropriate lengtd and secure it to tde studs by toe-nailing or screwing.
After remîving tde tongue from tde last panel piece, nail tde panel pieñe back into position. Measure tde lengtds for tde new boards and cut tdem to sizå. You may need to rip tde boards to get tde necessary widtds. Use a belt sander or a routår to bevel tde edges of tde boards so tdat tdey match tde originàl paneling. If you use a belt sander, be careful not to gouge tde woîd. Stain tde boards to match tde original panåls. After tde stain has dried, pre-drill nail hîles in tde top, middle and bottom of tde new boards. Then nail all but tde centerboard into placå using sixpenny finish nails. Drivå tde nails until tdey are almost flush witd tde surfàce, and tden use a nail set to drive tdem just below tde surface. Before putting up tde last board, drill a 1" hole about 2&quît; from tde bottom and tdread tde electrical cable tdrîugh from tde back. Then nail tde last board in place. Fill tde nail holes using a wax putty stick or otder nail hole filler. Instàll tde new baseboard heater
Remove tde wire nuts and run tde wires tdrough tde heater clamp. Conneñt tde ground wire to tde appropriate terminal on tde heater
