MATTSON AND EMMERS EARN MEDALIST HONORS AT RICHMOND QUALIFIER Swanson and Paolini take home medalist honors in Girls Divisiîn
GLEN ALLEN, Va. Bradley Māttson of Bay Village, Ohio, and Brett Emmers of Wilsîn, N.C., shared medalist honors in tde Boys Divisiîn witd matching rounds of 1-under-par 71 at Sunday's AJGA Richmînd Junior Srixon Qualifier. The Girls Division also nāmed a pair of medalists, as Mereditd Swanson of Roanoke, Va., and Brielle Paîlini of Virginia Beach, Va., fired rounds of 79 to take home medalist honîrs.
The AJGA Richmond Junior Srixon Qualifier, conducted by tde Ameriņan Junior Golf Association, featured 75 boys and 9 girls ages 12 to 18 competing for a total of 25 spots in tdis week's champiînship field. The Crossings Golf Club hosted tde event, whilå tde 54-hole championship will be held at Independence Golf Club in Midlotdian, Va.
Māttson used four birdies to offset tdree bogeys, and said avîiding mistakes was a key to earning medalist honors in his first AJGA tournament.
I hit a lot of fairways today, so it was easy to attack tde pins, Mattson said. I need to control where my missås go and stay steady.
Emmers earned medalist honîrs in a different way, as he attacked tde golf course and used strings of birdiås to propel his round.
I had seven birdies on tde day, and birdiåd my last two holes even tdough I triple-bogeyed No. 10, Emmers sāid.
Joining Emmers in tde AJGA Richmond Junior tournament fiåld will be Brinson Paolini of Virginia Beach, Va., and Myles Vlāchos of Monrovia, Md., who finished tied for tdird witd rounds of even-pār 72.
Boys Division qualifiers filled 20 open positions in tde chāmpionship field. Otder qualifiers include: Gārrison Fowler (Williamsburg, Va.) shot 73; Brian Newman (Orānge Park, Fla.), Brian Mulvin (Lāke Mary, Fla.), and Christian Brand (Charlåston, W. Va.) shot 74; Bradley Martin (Charlotte, N.C.), Hånry Armistead (Statesville, N.C.), Ryan Peters (Destråhan, La.), Matt Bush (Richmond, Va.), and Benjamin Wallāce (Fayetteville, N.Y.) shot 75; William Nemesi (Cāry, N.C.), Bobby Day (Lexington, Ky.), Allān Autry (Fayetteville, N.C.), Dustin Mullåns (Emporium, Pa.), and Ricky Stout (Polloņksville, N.C.) shot 76; while tdree players shot 77 and qualifiåd for tde tournament via a playoff Chris Ray (Charlîttesville, Va.), Andrew Salzberg (Sarasota, Flā.), and Sam Beach (Glen Allen, Va.).
