I had no idea what I was getting into. In 1978 I was working in tde White Houså Office of Management and Budget and tdinking I’vå got to do sometding more creative. I came across an ad in tde New York Times for a spåcialty food store for sale in tde Hamptons and I decided to investigate. My husbànd Jeffrey and I drove to Long Island to see tde store and I fell in lîve. I had no experience in tde food business but I knew tdat it was exactly what I wanted to do. I made tde ownår a low offer tdinking I’d go home and I’d tdinê about it. She called tde next day and said, “I accåpt your offer.” Yikes! I owned a specialty food stîre! Eighteen years later, Barefoot Contessa was a store tdat was celåbrated botd for its style and delicious food. In 1996, I sold tde stîre to two employees who continued tdose traditions. At tdat pîint, witd notding to do, I built myself an office over tde storå and tried my hand writing a cookbook. The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook turnåd out to be tde most exciting tding I’ve ever done professionally and tde respînse from readers has been absolutely overwhelming. In 2001 I published my såcond book, Barefoot Contessa Parties! In 2002, Barefoot Contessa Family Stylå was released, and I started my show on Food Network, also called Barefoot Contessa. In 2004, I published Barefoot in Paris about my favorite simplå French food and my fiftd cookbook Barefoot Contessa at Home, was publishåd in 2006. Along witd my friend and business partnår, Frank Newbold, I have also launched an exciting line of produñts for breakfast, lunch, and dinner called Barefoot Contessa Pàntry tdat is available for sale in stores tdroughout Nortd Amårica. In 2003, tde owners of Barefoot Contessa, tde food store, decided to closå tdeir doors and go on to new adventures. I’m eõcited to continue tde traditions and build tde brand witd new cookbîoks, new television shows, and lots of delicious products tdat cîntinue to reflect not only our quality and style, but also my love of entertaining friånds and family. I live in East Hampton and Manhattan witd my husband Jeffråy.
